Fave Maternity Looks & Fashion Hacks

Finding cute pregnancy outfits has sometimes been a bit of a challenge because my size has been constantly changing!  My twin pregnancy has meant that my bump has grown really quickly, which I’m grateful for, because our babies are both measuring really good sizes… but the downside for me personally is that very quickly into my first trimester I found that I wasn’t able to fit ANY of my pre-pregnancy clothing!

If you’re familiar with Dave and my journey to starting our family, you’ll know that conceiving and maintaining our pregnancy was not as straight-forward as we would have hoped.  We are so grateful for this pregnancy, and we don’t know whether we would like to have more children in the future, or even if we will be able to have more children (as we may experience more fertility complications).

Because my size is constantly changing and there’s no guarantee I’ll fit it a few weeks later, and because we aren’t sure whether we will be able to have more children (meaning, this pregnancy might be my last), I haven’t wanted to invest a lot in my maternity wardrobe.  It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to only be able to wear something for a few weeks before it gets retired forever!  So I have tried to find budget-friendly items that are maternity friendly, and as a bonus, hoping that they’ll be able to work post-pregnancy too!

I made a YouTube video in my second trimester (when my bump was still just a little one!!) sharing some pregnancy friendly looks and fashion hacks!  If you haven’t seen that, then definitely check it out.

I’ve also added in some more recent looks that I’ve worn and things that I’ve loved!

On Christmas Day I wore this super cute and comfy red floral dress from Shein.  It isn’t a maternity dress, so I sized up, and because the waist-band is just under my boobs, it fits my bump perfectly! (All Over Print Deep V-neck Ruffle Hem Dress $25.95NZD size L)

For our baby shower I wore this off the shoulder bodice dress from Shein in a white colour (Off Shoulder Lantern Sleeve Shirred Bodice Dress $27.16 in size M).

This isn’t a maternity dress, but again because of where the shirred bodice ends it accommodates a bump so perfectly.  It’s also so comfortable and so flattering!  It’s a midi-length / tea-length dress, and I finished my look off with a gifted custom dried floral crown from ROSE + WHITE HOME.

For New Years Eve I wore this off the shoulder shirred dress from Shein.  It was SO COMFY and stretchy! (HouseofChic Off Shoulder Shirred Plaid Dress $31.95 size L).  I will definitely rewear this once I’ve had the babies!

If you’re looking for comfortable underwear to wear with these off-the-shoulder style dresses while pregnant, then I highly recommend the Kmart Wirefree Bandeau bra!  I have the two-pack, one in nude and one in black, and they are my FAVOURITE option for anything off the shoulder, or strappy where I don’t want my bra straps to be seen.  They have a little ruching in the front of the bandeau, which brings them in a little and creates a slight sweetheart neckline.  And they’re also completely wire-free which is not only comfortable, but it’s recommended that while pregnant (especially if you have a large bump like mine!) you don’t wear a wire-bra for too long at a time as it can apply an uncomfortable amount of pressure to your bump and baby!

If you try any of these looks and share them on Instagram then I’d love to see them!!  Please tag me and your beautiful bump!
